Sony BRAVIA K-55XR70

Month 22 of a 36-month warranty. The panel failed on its own.

A 55″ Mini LED BRAVIA, bought new on 20 September 2024 for $1,500 (₹1,50,031) with a three-year Sony warranty. In month 22 of that warranty the panel failed on its own. This is the record of that set: what it cost, what it did, and what Sony said when we claimed.

What appeared

Vertical lines at the top left of the picture on 2 July 2026, over an otherwise working image, with a dark band across it. More lines appeared during the phone call in which we were describing it. The set had been wall mounted since the day it was installed.

When it appeared

Month 22 of Sony's own 36-month warranty, and month 22 of five years of total cover once the Croma extended warranty is counted. Nothing had been dropped, knocked or moved.

What Sony recorded

The job card raised on 3 July 2026 records the reported symptom as “Panel Damage”. That wording is quoted from Sony's legal notice, which is published on this site in full.

What it cost to be told no

A repair estimate of $290 (₹29,130) on a set inside its warranty, and a cash offer of $100 (₹10,000) at the door on the day of the visit, which we refused and reported to Sony in writing.

Never produced, on this set
  • the dent
  • the crack
  • the scratch
  • the impact mark
  • the technical report
  • the lab test

This is one set and one file. It is not a review of the model, not a fault rate, and not a claim about anybody else's K-55XR70. Other owners have written in about other Sony sets and their accounts are published separately, unverified and marked as such.

Please help us be heard

One share from you does more than another email from us.

Sony has never answered a single one of our questions. Not one technical reply, not one photograph of the damage they charged us for. Their customer service is dead. We are one household with a bill and a folder of emails, and a company that can simply wait for us to get tired. A share from you is the one thing we cannot do for ourselves. Thirty seconds of your time puts this in front of someone who is about to spend fifteen hundred dollars on a television. Please help us be heard.

This is not about one TV any more. It is about how Sony decides a warranty claim. @laxmimerit asked for proof. Sony sent a $500,000 legal notice. So he asks @sony_india and @Sony at https://sonybravia.com 👉How do you diagnose physical damage from a photograph? #SorryBravia
